Description:
Provides financial aid and scholarship counseling to students and parents. Determines need-based financial aid awards for students not awarded through automated packaging programs. Employs professional judgment as appropriate for university, federal and state financial aid programs when there are special circumstances not accounted for in the student financial aid application. Updates student aid eligibility as additional information is reported. Reviews documentation submitted as part of the federal verification process. Communicates with financial aid applicants and parents/spouses to resolve incomplete or inaccurate financial aid information. Responds to telephone and e-mail inquiries from parents and students about university financial policies and account status. Provides one on one consultation with student and/or parent visitors regarding matters pertaining to Student Financial Services (SFS) at Puget Sound. Supports members of the SFS Specialists front line team in managing walk-in visitors, especially during periods of high-volume student service needs. Participates in admission/orientation activities. Teams with admission staff to provide exceptional student service for prospective students and their families. Performs federal & university refund and repayment calculations in accordance with federal regulations and university policy. May serve on committees or acts as a liaison with areas such as Admission, Study Abroad, Residential Programs, Registrar, and Veterans benefits.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent related combination of education and experience. Minimum of two years related experience in university student services preferred. Experience in the use of Federal Methodology (FM) need analysis is desirable. Financial counseling experience preferred. A strong knowledge of Federal financial aid regulations is highly desirable. Experience using word processing, spreadsheet and database programs (Word, Excel) is required. Prefer at least two years of increasingly responsible data management experience. Experience with Department of Education software programs and work with automated financial aid systems highly desirable. Experience with Federal Direct Loan programs preferred. Accounting background would prove helpful in this position, but not required. A commitment to liberal arts education and cultural diversity required. Ability to successfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community.
